As on the driving cloud the shiny Bow,
That gracious thing, made up of tears and light ~Coleridge
It was a night of thunderstorm and the morning looked bleak. I did bear a grudge, though not longstanding, against Lady Nature for spoiling my Harvest Moon experience. Yesterday the western skies were busy staging a pomp and glorious sunset, at the same time in the East dark clouds were gathering from nowhere to hide the rising Moon.
Nature did make amends! Early morning she presented me an unusual and marvelous sight. A rainbow! An apology writ large on Nature’s face, a sheepish smile she gave. My heart leaps up and the grudge melted away like a rainbow candy in a child’s mouth. The pretty arc too melted away soon.
My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!
The Child is the father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety. ~Wordsworth
